When to shoot
Start before the sun touches the horizon. The last half hour gives you long shadows and warm colour on the dunes, and the sky often stays colourful for a while after sunset.
Where to stand
Climb a dune ridge so that you have nothing but sand and sky behind you. Look for footprint-free sand and use the ridge line to lead the eye through the picture.
Three easy shots
- A silhouette: put the person between you and the sun, then tap the bright sky on your phone to darken the picture.
- A camel in side view against the low sun.
- Your shadow stretching across the ripples in the sand.
Look after your phone
Wipe the lens before each shot and keep your phone in a bag when you are not using it, as fine sand gets into everything.
Where to see it
The sunset safari includes sunset photo stops on the dunes.
